Museums are really just alternate classrooms, and the Buffalo Gap Historic Village is, as well. We have a variety of learning opportunities, from school field trips to customized programs for your special-interest groups. Let us know your interest and we’ll find or develop an educational program just right for you.
School field trips
Plan an adventuresome 2- to 3-hour field trip to the Buffalo Gap Historic Village for your students:
A hands-on, upbeat and fun experience about life in the West Texas frontier
Three short small-group lessons taught by retired teachers/volunteers
An exciting seek n find will certify students as BGHV “History Detectives”
Time built in to tour all the historic buildings in the Village
Bring your own picnic lunch!
Large grassy field to burn off extra energy before returning to school
Set in beautiful tree-filled Buffalo Gap
Plenty of room for bus and volunteer parking
Don’t have that much time? Need specific points covered? Our programs are administered by former teachers who would be happy to customize the schedule for you.

Onsite learning
While you don’t need to read much (or at all!) to enjoy the furnishings and artifacts at the Village, there is a wealth of information onsite in our signage. Here are a few of our favorites.

The North American Reciprocal Museum
It may take you several visits to soak up all there is to learn at the Buffalo Gap Historic Village. A basic membership today will allow unlimited visits for a whole year. But don’t stop here! As an upper-level member of the Village, you will also be a member of NARM and entitled to free admission at more than 1,300 museums around the continent.
The North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association connects people and museums across six countries, boasting members from arts and history museums to botanical gardens, children’s museums, science centers and more.
If you plan to travel elsewhere in Texas, anywhere in the US, or to Bermuda, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, or Mexico, be sure to confirm your membership in the Buffalo Gap Historic Village to get free admission at other NARM museums. See NARM details here.
